Cliffjumper Generation 1 Hasbro 1984

When I first got this one, I was like nice. I have Bumblebee! It really looks like Bumblebee from the cartoon since I have the yellow version, but it is the wrong car. Bumblebee is a Volkswagon Bug, not a Porsche Turbo. The face really looks like Bumblebee though. While looking this up with Bumblebee I realized I had Cliffjumper and I mixed the two up. Hasbro made the choice to have Cliffjumper in red and yellow as a way to make the toy line look bigger. I dunno, six cars in the Mini Vehicles line is good enough as far as I can tell.

I enjoy the little guy as it is easy to transform. Not too stupid looking, but they could have put a little more effort into the hands and arms. Anyway figure since these Bumblebee and Cliffjumper both transform the same way and I confused the two, they will my Robot of the Week this week. Cliffjumper’s legs are a little loose after transforming him over the years. So the joints on the arms and legs are a bit loose and he does not stand or pose as well as he used to.

Bumblebee Generation 1 Hasbro 1984

Bumblebee was always one of the more irritating Transformers characters. Always getting in trouble  and doing stupid things. Like having an little brother that keeps bugging you all the time. Usually you see him in his standard yellow as a Volkswagon Beetle. As the initial line did not have enough robots. Some of the mini vehicles came in the two colors red and yellow. My Bumblebee comes in red.  There is nothing complicated about transforming the robot to a car. It is a simple, fun design. I could see why it would be a popular toy back then and even now.

I always find these interesting tidbits as I explore my robots and Dave’s. I bought this in a lot in auction. I never would have picked this up on its own. But it is nice having these robots to fill out my Generation 1 collection as I found out I have more Generation 2, Beast Wars, Machine Wars and other later series. I have a really small G1 collection. That being said I never really cared about these robots in the 80’s.  but I enjoy them much more now as an adult and my daughter enjoys transforming them too.

Robot of the Week

So I am finally getting out my Robot of the Week. Sometime this week. LOL, most likely in the next day or two. I just updated my first posts which were just images. Now I have my own take on of my collection, light review of the robot and some light commentary. As I update old posts which were only pix, I will update the publish date show they show as new posts.

So on to my first Robot of the Week. Here is a hint, this is my first Transformer post and this little robot is not always red.

Here’s Soundwave, one of the G1 Transformers I never had as a kid.  I had a loose one at some point but traded it.  This re-issue comes with two of the Decepticon tapes – “Laserbeak” and “Ravage.”  This is the Soundblaster version. Soundwave is upgraded to Soundblaster in later iterations of the cartoon.

I bought this in Japan at Mandarake, Akihabara branch for 52 dollars. If I were to buy him here, he’d be double the price, maybe more since I never saw him at Toys R Us when these were re-issued in the early 2000’s. I haven’t put any of the stickers because I’m afraid they will come off over time.

Battle Fever Soul of Chogokin Bandai GX-30

Here’s the Soul of Chogokin Battle Fever that I bought in Japan at Mandarake in Shibuya Oct 2013.  I paid about 50-60 dollars.  The toy is 2nd hand but sure didn’t seem like it. It seemed like it was almost brand new, with complete box, styro tray, uncut tape, manual  and pieces. My cousin has the original 1979 version.  With all the accessories that came with this toy, I was so paranoid of losing pieces(I lost a few pieces the last time I put away my robots). I’ve only displayed him with one sword.

Daimos DX Godaikin 1984 Popy Chogokin GA-85 from anime Battle Commander Daimos from 1978-1979

Here’s the Daimos DX from the Godaikin line, 1984.  I never had this one as a kid nor did I ever see him as a kid either.  After keeping a casual lookout for him, I could never find him complete for a decent price. So, I was thinking of getting the Soul of Chogokin version thinking it would be cheaper but I was always seeing him for about 250-300 online and besides, he’s not as big as the Godaikin version. I was almost tempted to buy this same robot listed on Ebay for 300 from Taiwan but I decided to wait and my faith was rewarded when I found this one for 166 and to boot, the item was being shipped from the next town over!

I am very happy to have him as I paid a decent price for a robot that wasn’t exactly a must have AND he’s complete!  The ones I was looking at were missing fists, swords etc. Anyway, I’ve reached out to this seller to see if he has other things he might be interested in selling and as well, it would be cool to find another person who shares my interest in these toys.  I’m getting closer to completing the Godaikin collection – Tetsujin 28, God Sigma, and Valvilos are the remaining ones left.

Combattra DX Godaikin – 1982

One of my “Holy Grail” Godaikin pieces that I’d been coveting for quite a long time but could never get him at the price I wanted. I actually saw the Combattra DX in Japan, but he was 525 dollars.

I was very tempted to buy him at the time but I had already bought quite a few toys and this would have really put me over my budget. I then kept an eye out on Ebay and missed out on one for 125 buy it now last month and was kicking myself.  Luckily this one came up and I managed to win him for 300 dollars.  A little steep but still much cheaper than when I have seen him since this one was loose, one of his antennas is broken and he doesn’t have the weapons.  Still, I’ve very glad to have this piece since he’s just so hard to find.

GodMarz Custom GB-88 – 1982

Here is my Godmarz Custom. Ok, I’m getting close to completing the Godaikin collection!  The only ones left are GodSigma, Tetsujin 28(aka “The Holy Grail”), Daimos, Dancougar, and Vavilos.  While the Godmarz Custom one isn’t the same size as the Godaikin version, I’m still quite happy to have this as I got this one for a very, very good price (133 dollars) since one of the little robots was missing one of his arms. You actually don’t need it to make the big robot.  Otherwise, he’s all complete. I had to take a pix of my cousin helping me to put this robot together via Youtube video because all the joints were so tight and we didn’t want to take the chance of breaking the toy. Found out you can watch the anime on Hulu.

Mospeada Scott Bernard Armored Cyclone Gakken 1983

Here is a loose piece that I’ve been casually looking at through the years – the full size Scott Bernard Armored Cyclone. I never had him as a kid as I concentrated on getting the Alpha Fighters. Fast forward 20 years and I thought it would be cool to have him as part of my Mospeada collection although he’s usually been out of my price range as I’ve usually seen him for about 250-300 in box. I bought this very nice loose cyclone for 100 on Ebay.

As part of this series, I also have 2 out of the 3 Alpha fighters (there’s a red/blue/green ones).   I have the red and blue versions, while my cousin had the green Alpha fighter at one time. Scott Bernard flies the blue alpha fighter I believe.

We are now DXrobo.com

Hi, everyone.

We just completed a move from my old domain Xplorecyber.org to DXrobo.com. We have modified our site title from Henson Robo to DX Robo. So make sure you bookmark our new location. It took a lot longer than I thought. I have not written a new post for a while, but my cousin has added his new purchases up on the site every few weeks. I will probably work on his updating those posts before I continue with my collection.

You may see some weird things as I experiment with new themes/templates. I have been going over my old posts and have added videos, pictures, and text. So please go an check out my older posts! I am going to start putting out a Robot of the Week so there is always something fun and new on the site. If my cousin keeps buying new robots, you might not see one of mine for a while. So keep reading and Enjoy your visit to DXrobo.com!
