Polyfect Toys Firefighter 7″ combiner robots

Here is the Polyfect Toys Firefighter 7″  a combiner robot knockoff of the Transformers Defensor with a new job title: Firefighter. I guess I would rather be a firefighter instead of a defender. His new color scheme really matches his new theme and it looks pretty good. I think I prefer it to the original. Of Polyfect Toys  robots I have put up so far, this is my favorite. It looks good as a combined robot, the colors sync(which is what made Devastator a nice looking robot despite the heinous green they used), and the design as a whole robot . I would have to take this apart and play with it to see if each of the individual robots  look good by themselves, but at the very least this looks like good display piece if you do not want to fork out $130 for a reissue Defensor. Or it might be cool to display right next to your Defensor. I like displaying my Popy ST robots next to their DX counterparts.

The Polyfect versions are not the same scale as the original robots, but they are still tempting to add to the collection for fun. I don’t actually have a Firefighter robot yet, but I am thinking about it.

Polyfect Power Goldan

Meet Power Goldan or Ougon Gattai Goldran from the anime Ōgon Yūsha Goldran from 1995-1996. I had never heard of Polyfect Toys till I bought Construction(Devastator knock off). They seem to be the fine purveyors of knockoff robots. Power Goldan will not be a part of my collection, but I find this toy line fascinating. The quality is not terrible and these are not the worst robots I have ever seen. But they are all plastic, the color is terrible, and this one looks kinda cheap. The instructions show he can turn into a dinosaur/dragon type robot and back.

I always find cheap robots fun and really tacky(which is the fun part). So if you don’t mind spending a few bucks on Power Goldan you can add him to your collection on the cheap. I hope they keep extending this line until I see something I like robot wise.

Polyfect Toys Construction 7″ combiner robots

This is Construction(lamest name ever, right?). I found this combiner robot at Danny’s Carwash 6 years ago. Aside from the robot’s name and brand Polyfect Toys, there is almost no English on the package. It’s all in Chinese. But what this really is, is a really cool knock off of the Generation 1 Devastator. Go figure. I had hours of fun playing with these at my desk at work transforming them when I was bored.

The only other English on the box besides Construction is the name of each combiner robot, the distributor, and the choking warning. The names are as generic as you can get(Building, Feeding, Picking, Sanitation, Ravage, Disguise). Wonder what genius figured out those names? Anyway, I lost this piece and I found it again at the Dollar Store. Guess they keep pumping out more of these, but I am glad they did.  I see some Spanish on these, so they must be selling it in Spain or Mexico too. Probably China too, seeing as there is Chinese all over it.

This is a fun piece to have and such a great price. I only ever had 2 of the original G1 Constructicons, so it is nice to have them all in this piece. I am wondering why they are still selling the Polyfect Construction after all these years. I am thinking Takara must have sold them rights to use the original molds as they look identical to the original Devastator. The quality is not that great(the plastic is cheap and the paint job is not that good), but now I feel much more comfortable transforming each of these as I did not spend a ton on these robots.

Dancougar Godaikin DX GC-30 – 1985

Here’s Dancougar – another one from the Godaikin collection.  Checking the back foot, I see this one was made in 1985.  This was another one I never had. Looking at the old price tag from Kaybee, I see the original price was 44.99 and then was marked down to 24.99. Man, I never saw this at a Toys R Us or Kaybee let alone marked down! Anyway, I briefly borrowed my cousin’s Gigabrain plastic re-issue from the 1987 anime and that one looks better as a robot but it’s not a combiner and it’s all plastic.  I got this Dancougar Godaikin at a really good price – 170 dollars! Whenever I do see this piece, it’s been about 300-400 dollars.  It’s missing the gun, however.

Daltanious GA-99 by Popy ST 1979 Japan aka Daltanias

This Daltanious ST is one of my only Popy pieces. I prefer this smaller Daltanious to the Popy Daltanias DX(GB-01, GB-02, PB-81) as the proportions are more appealing to look at. This is a nice hunk of die cast metal. I have the larger one, but I am missing pieces and the fists which would be nice to have. I would probably just display this one, because I am just not that hot on the design on the DX. The parts on the body look too skinny on a big robot. The foot missiles zing out a nice zing 5 feet and have a surprisingly strong spring. I am a big fan of this robot as it a great looking piece and such an improvement over the DX version. The ST version never made it to the US, but we did get the Godaikin DX Daltanias version.

I originally started out with the die cast metal Shogun Warriors and moved on to these pieces as an adult. We went to Japan Town in San Francisco to see the newest Gundam and Macross robots from Japan. My cousin just went to Japan and these pieces are a bit more than I want to pay for. But it’s nice to know I can pick them up if I have the dough.

The anime Future Robot Daltanious came out in 1979-1980 where earth has been conquered by aliens. They were going to use Daltanious for the lion robot, version of Voltron, but Toei sent out GoLion instead. They loved GoLion and it became the most popular Voltron robot. Here is the original Daltanious opener for the cartoon.

Voltron III Matchbox Defender of the Universe Miniature Lion Space Robot 1984 aka Golion GB-35 ST Popy 1981

Popy gave these to us first as Golion GB-35 in 1981. This is the iconic robot from the 80’s. I don’t have anything bad to say about this robot. Golion has a great design and is a great ST version with the sword and shield.

I have the Voltron version. I wish the Voltron versions had a sword. The DX and ST Voltron from Matchbox and do not have the sword or any of the Golion accessories and I have both. Guess I know what I will do if I ever get a 3D printer. I did not realize this one had never been opened. The tape and tie to hold it to the styrofoam are still there. Guess it’s opened once now, but as mint as it will ever be. Seems like the legs and the chest are die cast metal(only the head and arms are plastic) so it’s a pretty heavy robot likely making this one from its Chogokin line or roughly translated Super Alloy. If you notice, I mention that a lot. I am a fan of the old toys they made with metal. They seem more sturdy and substantial, like American cars from the 70’s. My little cousin clocked me in the head with an old metal Tonka truck I had and that one time, I wish it was plastic.

The American version of the cartoon for this robot was pretty lame, but I can only say I liked a few robot anime. Getta Robo, Dangard Ace, Gaiking, especially Macross and Gundam. Not the American versions. Hate Matchbox for depriving us of swords for Voltron, bastards.

Anyway checked out a couple of the original Japanese Golion episodes and it was a much better. Seems like they made a lot of changes to the plot and removed the violence.

Diaclone Gats Blocker Takara 1983 aka Diakron Multi Force 14 Robot 1984

The Gats Blocker robot was a mystery to me for the longest time. I traded for this from a kid down the block in the late 80’s, but I never had the outer box or asked what it was. I was not sure what this robot was when I got it, but it looked pretty cool. It would have been nice to have the internet on this guy back then.

This was a Diaclone robot Gats Blocker before most Diaclone robots became Transformers. Takara tried to market Gats Blocker here as Diakron, then Kronoform and later as Grandstand Convertors Alphatron. After reading about Diaclone robots, I found the solution to this mystery. Not that it was bugging me, but it was nice to know. I have had this robot for over 20 years and had no idea what this was. Now, I know. The link below covers Diaclone robots over the years. I also appear to be missing the pilots that go in 5 of the vehicles.

http://tfsource.com/blog/diaclone-abroad/

At this point I am not sure if this is the Diaclone or US version. Do I have Gats Blocker or Diakron? The guy I traded with bought robots here and in Asia. Maybe if I check out the made by on the robot I will find out.

It is a nice display size and a good looking robot. You can pick it up on the secondary market for a relatively low price as it had so many releases. ***

Matchbox Voltron III The Deluxe Lion Set aka Golion Godaikin DX GB-36

Voltron is one of the robots that started it all for me. Where we fell in love with our big metal robots. The Golion DX as a Godaikin is the one my cousin Dave had. It came with a huge amount of accessories, like most DX Popy robots. Damn Matchbox for not providing Voltron with his sword. Voltron was all about his sword in the cartoon. Man, that is one terrible cartoon, ain’t it? And the dubs are terrible too. I wish I could unwatch those. Maybe if I watch them in Japanese they will be better. Hmmmm…

Matchbox Voltron III Defender of the Universe The Deluxe Lion Set

Anyway I have a lotta love for this robot. This robot has 5 lions that tranform into one of the best robots out there. Even the lions forms are excellent. I will have to pop him into robot form later for this post. This robot has been very popular over the years, so there have been a lot of releases. Lets see, Popy, Bandai America, Matchbox, Trendmasters, and now Toynami. I figure they will release it again within the next few years, so maybe I can try picking up a new one with all the accessories or even the Lionbot set made from the original molds(but vastly inferior paint applications!).

See that styrofoam? Not a single accessory! The Popy and Godaikin versions had the full arsenal of missile launchers, daggers and a huge sword! I picked up Voltron III as an adult and I was really disappointed in the castrated Matchbox Voltron.

I gotta admit there is a bit more violence in the Beast King GoLion, than in Voltron. The story works a little better and I am actually enjoying the first episode. Checkout the anime tv show from 1981-1982.

Jetman DX Jet Icarus Bandai 1991

Maybe some day I will put the decals on Jetman DX Jet Icarus here. Looks pretty good without them though. This is so close to being a Godaikin I had to pick it up. Since so many Godaikins came from the Super Sentai series, it’s not a surprise that they have another solid piece like this one. I am sure there are a few more robots I have seen before that would be great to add to the collection.

This is the European release of the Tenkugattai Jet Icarus that came out in 1991. I can’t really see any differences from the Japanese release based on images I see on eBay. I really enjoyed the design on this one and the solid build. The legs and body are not too flat and blocky like Sun Vulcan or one of the Fiveman robos. The color scheme works pretty good too.

I am not a Super Sentai fan, but some of the robots from the series are pretty cool. I was not collecting robots when this came out, but it still tugs on the same heart strings I feel from DX Popy robots from the 80’s. Here is the commercial for the Jet Icarus toy.

Dancougar DX GoDaikin by Bandai 1985 aka Popy GC-30

The DX Dancougar is a solid piece, but I can’t say I love this one. I got it without the box. I should have held out for a boxed copy(though maybe I never would have picked one up). I will have to change this into the large robot one day and redo some of these pictures as my old iPhone really does provide the detail I would like to see in these photos. I keep forgetting. This one is like Abegas, but the robots are a little better. The largest robot is a decent piece and they didn’t forget to make sure there was some diecast metal. Sorry, I hate cheap plastic robots. Probably should get around to the better pictures for each robot and as one large robot. ***

I plan to add the ST Dancougar to my collection, but I haven’t seen it for a while. I will have to keep an eye out for it.
