Popy GC-22 Bismarck DX 1985 from anime Seijuushi Bismarck 1984-1985

So this is my Bismarck DX. I just picked it up this year. Dave got his back in the mid 80’s in Japan. It is one of the last branded Popy Chogokin super robots before Popy was reabsorbed into Bandai. The anime cartoon Sei Juushi Bismarck is a cowboy western, sci-fi frontier setting, with a super robot from 1984-1985. You may know it here as Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs from World Event Productions the same people who brought over Voltron. The ship turns into wings for the robot and you an insert the robot into the ship or you can say it transforms into a ship.

It is a nice heavy 9 inch diecast metal robot with a black and white theme, which is a welcome change  from the red, white and blue sentai robots. It was not one of the must have robots from the 80’s for me, but it is a nice addition.

I have the Space Cruiser, but sadly no missiles or tank treads either. I also am missing Bismarck’s pistol. I never really cared for the cruiser converting to wings on Bismarck. The cruiser itself is a nice piece.

Here is the intro for the anime Seijuushi Bismarck 1984-1985. It kinda reminds me of a cowboy anime version of the Super Sentai series. The uniforms have a Power Ranger look to them.

More from the Bandai Museum…

More pictures from the Bandai Museum. Here are some pictures for your pleasure. Sorry, Dave took them from his phone so they are not that good. A lot of them are blurry or the focus is off. Other than that, they are still pretty cool to look at.

Giant Gorg DX 1984 Takara 1/48 Scale

Here is the Giant Gorg DX. The DX robot is actually pretty rare. I hardly ever see this one listed for sale. I bid a few times on this one in a few auctions and it was long time before I ever saw it listed again.

Since it was not the most popular anime, I am thinking this piece came out in limited distribution. I actually watched a few episodes and it was pretty solid. I found review of it online here so I may get around to watching the whole series later. It’s about a boy who makes friends with a big blue robot in the South Pacific on mysterious Austral Island. A large international corporation GAIL pursues them as they search for treasure on the island.

Big Blue is pretty cool. It does not transform, but I really like the idea of a big blue robot aside from Tetsjujin 28. The DX version is so much better than the ST version I have. This ST robot is really disappointing based on the ST versions from Popy which came out at the same time which seem superior to DX versions in many cases. The proportions, detail and, quality really show on this piece. It really makes me wonder if the same company made both of them. Articulation kinda sucks on Gorg, but I really don’t expect much on robots from the 80’s. I just want a good looking robot with die cast metal. Based on what I see. The Giant Gorg DX has it all.

Dancougar Godaikin DX GC-30 – 1985

Here’s Dancougar – another one from the Godaikin collection.  Checking the back foot, I see this one was made in 1985.  This was another one I never had. Looking at the old price tag from Kaybee, I see the original price was 44.99 and then was marked down to 24.99. Man, I never saw this at a Toys R Us or Kaybee let alone marked down! Anyway, I briefly borrowed my cousin’s Gigabrain plastic re-issue from the 1987 anime and that one looks better as a robot but it’s not a combiner and it’s all plastic.  I got this Dancougar Godaikin at a really good price – 170 dollars! Whenever I do see this piece, it’s been about 300-400 dollars.  It’s missing the gun, however.

Here’s God Sigma DX from the Godaikin series. This wasn’t a must have except only in the context of completing the Godaikins collection and I didn’t want to spend a whole lot on it.  I was about to spend 200 on this piece last month, but then decided against it.  Fast forward two weeks later and my cousin saw this awesome listing on Ebay for 80 bucks!  (Thanks cuz!)  This piece went for 80 because the leg on the blue robot (the left leg) is broken but luckily it doesn’t prevent the robot from being combined.  It was also missing a few of the weapons and the box top, but overall, I’m VERY satisfied as you can’t even get the Soul of Chogokin version for this price!

Gerwalk Nikick MBG-24C 1983 1/40 scale Takatoku Toys

The Gerwalk Nikick is another of my favorite robots from the 1980’s(Takatoku made some great robot toys before they went out of business). I watched some of the Super Dimension Century Orguss series in the late 90’s on VHS tapes at my old video rental store, remember those days? I enjoyed them, but it was not hard core sci-fi like Super Dimension Fortress Macross. The storyline felt a bit hokey. My cousin already had the Orgroid and Nikick robots back in 1984, but we really had no context for them back then. I never finished the story line as they never finished the dubs on VHS. Looks to me like they only dubbed the first 17 episodes and never completed the entire 35 episodes. The only dvds I see for these are the Japanese set and Japanese dvds are so expensive!

Gerwalk Nikick MBG-24C 1983 1/40 scale Takatoku Toys from anime Super Dimension Century Orguss 1983-1984

I always liked the design of the Gerwalk Nikick MBG-24C. It looks like a walking tank. The color scheme seems right for a military robot compared to the Orgroid. The head seems a bit small, but overall I really like the design and feel of this robot. I prefer it over the Orgroid, the other robot in this series(which is still a pretty cool robot). It transforms to a Gerwalk and flight form as well, making it much like the Macross Valkyries. The Nikick is another great transforming robot from Takatoku Toys.

Daimos DX Godaikin 1984 Popy Chogokin GA-85 from anime Battle Commander Daimos from 1978-1979

Here’s the Daimos DX from the Godaikin line, 1984.  I never had this one as a kid nor did I ever see him as a kid either.  After keeping a casual lookout for him, I could never find him complete for a decent price. So, I was thinking of getting the Soul of Chogokin version thinking it would be cheaper but I was always seeing him for about 250-300 online and besides, he’s not as big as the Godaikin version. I was almost tempted to buy this same robot listed on Ebay for 300 from Taiwan but I decided to wait and my faith was rewarded when I found this one for 166 and to boot, the item was being shipped from the next town over!

I am very happy to have him as I paid a decent price for a robot that wasn’t exactly a must have AND he’s complete!  The ones I was looking at were missing fists, swords etc. Anyway, I’ve reached out to this seller to see if he has other things he might be interested in selling and as well, it would be cool to find another person who shares my interest in these toys.  I’m getting closer to completing the Godaikin collection – Tetsujin 28, God Sigma, and Valvilos are the remaining ones left.

Combattra DX Godaikin – 1982

One of my “Holy Grail” Godaikin pieces that I’d been coveting for quite a long time but could never get him at the price I wanted. I actually saw the Combattra DX in Japan, but he was 525 dollars.

I was very tempted to buy him at the time but I had already bought quite a few toys and this would have really put me over my budget. I then kept an eye out on Ebay and missed out on one for 125 buy it now last month and was kicking myself.  Luckily this one came up and I managed to win him for 300 dollars.  A little steep but still much cheaper than when I have seen him since this one was loose, one of his antennas is broken and he doesn’t have the weapons.  Still, I’ve very glad to have this piece since he’s just so hard to find.

Deluxe Sazabi MSN-04 from Bandai MSIA line in 2002 – Definitely one of the best Deluxe robots from this line!

Here’s the big 12 inch DX version of the Sazabi from Gundam 0080 Char’s Counterattack.  I had this before but sold it to my cousin a couple of years ago.  I think I have all of the DX Gundams now except for the GP-01.  I paid 120 dollars for this one on Ebay.  I’ll post a pix of the actual toy once I take it out of the box.

Macross VF-1J DX and ST, the DX 1/55 scale & ST 1/100 scale Takatoku Toys 1983

Here are two VF-1J’s “Hikaru Ichijyo” versions from the Macross series.  One is the Takatoku deluxe version, while the other is the smaller, ST version.  I cannot remember where I purchased the big one – I’m going to guess Japan, 1985.  The ST one, on the other hand, I vividly remember purchasing it at Longs Drugs in Burlingame (of all places). I remember when there was this big robot craze in the 80’s, you could find these toys in the most unlikely of places.  I think my cousin mentioned that he bought some Transformers from a carwash.

Anyway, the cartoon still is a picture of the VF-1J with the add-on armor. When has this armor, however, he cannot transform into a plane.

Macross VF-1J Armored Valkyrie still piloted by Hikaru Ichijyo (一条 輝 Ichijō Hikaru) from Super Dimension Fortress Macross( 超時空要塞マクロス or Chōjikū Yōsai Makurosu)
